Doesn't have a point of view

up late
Okay. Because I am up, I should not be posting.
I don't feel sleepy anyway.

Maybe it was Anu's warm chai. Anu's tea is almost as good as tea with meboshi. Okay, i know that's not how it's spelled.

P-chem quiz in a couple of hours, but I think I finally understand why the universe is always becoming more disordered which I truthfully never got before.
Ha! I now seem obsessed with Mr. Kanow, but I always imagine Sharon's room becoming more messy when I think of increasing entropy.

Aqueduct was good. I am listening to them right now, along with the Ditty Bops. You should be listening to them too.

I think that everyone had a crush on that bass player afterward. He reminded me of Matt Sharp. Maybe. Not really. Man, he is one of those guys that you have to see in person to find attractive. Like Jona. How can anyone not love Jona?

On the note of attractiveness: Eric, I have not forgotten your list. I just can't think of anyone to put on it.

My fellowship application asks me this: The unique experiences and cultural backgrounds of the participating students influence the quality of SULI. What do you think you would bring to the program?
What am I supposed to say to this? I thought most programs did not want to be biased by being aware of an applicant's ethnicity. I was going to focus on unique experiences, but my mom interpreted the question the other way. Plus, what would you say for unique experiences? How does anyone put into words the way in which the chain of experiences that is their life will affect others? Instead, I am talking about how I grew up in the SG valley, where all of the bank and restaurant signs are in Chinese or Vietnamese. Somehow my hometown makes me a person that will enhance their program through tolerance of others. ?? Arg. This question decreases my respect for the program. I have been working on this question literally for hours and still I am getting nowhere.

Paul McCartney: Obsessed with sky? Calico? Vanilla? Both excellent songs.
Ringo Starr: Future Stan Lee superhero. Go, Ringo, Go!

supermarket
Today I began to understand those people who leave grocery store shopping carts in our front yard at home. Not until today did I consider that our neighbors probably have no other means for transporting their groceries. I walked back today from Safeway with a backpack of 4 pounds of navel oranges, a giant tub of cottage cheese, and 8 bananas, plus a bag with a gallon of milk, tofu, canned peaches, and other produce. My bag's handle broke on the way and I had to tie it up to make it home. I really don't know what I would do if I lived only 2 blocks farther from the store.

I've been wanting to post for a very long time because whenever I make the transition between home and Whitman I do a lot of thinking. I can't believe that I've only been back a week. In that time I've experienced snow, freezing rain, sun, and mist. As always, I wasn't too excited about coming to school again, but seeing everyone made me happy just as Karina said it would. We played soccer in the snow the day that I got back after eating at La Hacienda and it wasn't as dreary as most of my Walla Walla arrivals.

Today my mom called me and told me to pursue writing. I just don't know about writing anymore. I feel behind all of my peers. Today in ancient theatre, one girl who seems as shy as me was called on. Professor Burgess asked her what the tone of Oedipus's speech was in the passage and she paused. At the same time I was trying to think of an articulate explanation, as if it had been me. She finally timidly answered with, maybe placating.
Placating!? I have no clue what that means.
I also realized that I have done little lately to improve my handle on the English language. I haven't even finished reading Strunk and White.

On a similar note, I volunteered to help with the KWCW evening news to refresh everything about journalism that I have forgotten. I am excited to be involved in an independent source of information and with the radio station, but I didn't think through what I was getting myself into. It's not the work, because I should have time after dropping my Chinese gardens class. Instead of actually writing, I am going to be interviewing professors and recording these interviews on minidisks. These interviews will be focused upon current events in the nation and the world, which I really know nothing about. To sum it up, I am very scared. Maybe it will be good for me. I will report (ha!) back soon with how it turns out.

I found a co-host for my radio show! Yea! Same time, same station, new input. While you are waiting for Sunday to come, listen to the Manatee, Lillian and Greg, on Thursdays from 10-12 pm at www.uclaradio.com.

One last thing: my inorganic book came in the mail today. Finally I can read chemistry without fear of opening the book all the way which was hurting my neck. The book came from UCLA because the box was stuffed with pages of the Daily Bruin (which made me excited). But guess what? As described by the seller, there is highlighting and pen writing all over inside. Ha! Mr. Kanow is wrong! UCLA students DO highlight their books. For the past 6 years, I have refrained from it just because of him. Usually I like reading what people have written, but this person had what I call Winnie-the-Pooh handwriting- writing that is very girly, bubbly, and reproducible. Maybe this highlighting student didn't continue on in chemistry or I probably would not own their book. That's it. Time to reluctantly read inorganic.

rain away
The rain, which I usually love, has robbed me of my last weekend of Breakfast with the Beatles. Sob.

I sent out an e-mail two days ago about a co-host for my own Breakfast with the Beatles show and I have already receieved 4 responses. This was by sending to the dj listserv alone. I did not expect this kind of response at all and now I'm not really sure what to do.

Talked to Elizabeth last night. Eric and I may visit her for spring break. Yea!

I'm going out with Lillian in 2 hours. Food=fun.
Right now, I must get a good start on my internship essay. So, what do I want to do when I grow up? If you can help me with answering that question, leave a comment. I will be especially greatful.

Striving for productivity
I just received new year's photos from Karina. I'll post more when I return to Walla Walla and my wonderfully quick computer equipped with hello photos.

Yesterday I got to hang out with Trinh, my Jelly leader and still one of the most remarkable people that I will ever know. We went to get Indian food at New Delhi on Colorado. The food was pretty good, but I guess we were a little late for the buffet and left once they began to vacuum the floor. I wish we could have talked longer because there is no telling when Trinh and I will meet again. She showed me photos from her semester in Kenya and reminded me of the conspiracy that is San Gabriel High.
Oh! For tea club members, Trinh also gave me Kenyan tea. Thanks Trinh! I can't wait to try it.

Lillian! I looked at an issue of Giant Robot while at Borders the other day and found an ad for nucleus. I still can't believe that it exists in my town. Apparently another new store for vintage clothes and sneakers, the Lion's Den, is coming. Ooo! They are also releasing the new line of Poketo wallets at Nucleus. Ooo! Here's the website for enjoyment. www.gallerynucleus.com

I posted some photos on my website.
The rest of my break is consumed by trying to fit everything in to a 1 week period. How did it go by so fast? I had promised to study, but did not. I had promised to read, but haven't gotten too far. I am now kept awake at night with the fear that I may not return to my home in the SG Valley for a long, long time. Even if I am here next winter, I will be cramming for orals for sure. Bleck to orals.

I am 3/4 of the way through Middlesex. This book is not bad, but is a little slow. I am also annoyed by the point of view. Some how it excuses the constant use of parentheses filled by the narrator's little justifications. Parentheses have always annoyed me. I feel bad criticizing a writer like Jeffrey Eugenides, but I can safely say that The Virgin Suicides is better.

Ahh!!! The wonders of the Arcade Fire have reached the ears of KROQ listeners. Along with the raining skies, I will mourn for today.
I missed Lillian's show last night and her top 10 album count down. :( I accidentally uninstalled the volume control on my parents' computer two days ago, so I could not hear it. Blah.

I have a ride! Elizabeth is back in Walla Walla already. No word from Eric from his Minnesota journey.

Tomorrow is another rainy day in front of the computer screen. Look for another lonely entry.

give me a break
I have been watching lots of James Bond lately so I am entitled to some cheesy jokes in his honor. At the beginning of Goldfinger he throws a heater into a bathtub to electrocute the bad guy, then smoothly says "shocking." I had to laugh at that one.

A lot has happened since my last entry, but I am feeling lazy to recap. I have shopped, seen family, gone out for coffee a record number of 2 times, seen close friends, partied for new year's, watched plenty of tv, searched for a new wallet to buy online, and read half of Middlesex. Basically life is good. Now it's time start on summer applications.

Highlights of the week to come are my lunch with Trinh and going back to San Gabriel High, I guess. It would have been better with Sylvia with me. I also hope to see Lillian and visit Nucleus.

I watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 the other day and now need to see Kill Bill Vol. 2.

With the year over, I am seeing lists of top movies and songs. I realize, also after Felix's question of what is currently in my CD player, that I don't purchase or listen to much brand new music. I could have lied and answered with the Arcade Fire, but in all honesty, I have only heard a couple of their songs and they did not strike me in a way that songs from a band like the Decemberists did when I first heard them. I cannot compose a fair top album list without hearing them in entirety. I have some shaping up to do. Right before I left, I think I was most excited about the new Ted Leo, Rilo Kiley's Portion for Foxes, and my discovered interest in alt country. I hate to admit it, but I am starting to be a sucker for Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, and similar artists which I am still trying to dig up.

This year, I might actually make some resolutions. This may be the first year ever.

Grammy nominations came out without me knowing. All I have to say is that I am not pleased. Los Lonely Boys? Hoobastank? This couldn't have been a good year for the music world.
