Doesn't have a point of view

on Target
Last week I scared myself by identifying with those people who eat at McDonald's when traveling to a new city or, worse yet, all those regular Wal-Mart shoppers. After a long and hectic day, I found my way to the Kennewick Target. I walked in and instantly felt relaxed. Something about the familiar look and even smell of the store made me feel at home. Am I okay? No matter how hard I resist, Target always manages to appeal to the repressed graphic designer within me.

I scanned this photo from the front page of the Tri-Cities Herald. Every day, when I drive to work, this is exactly what I see. Okay, I do not see the group of peace marchers, but I do see that depressing black dome.
Tomorrow night there is a show in downtown Kennewick with this band called Gosling. They used to be Loudermilk. Under that name, they played in Walla Walla my freshman year and I also received their Dreamworks album when I was my high school paper's entertainment section editor. Neither of these facts give them much credibility, but I have nothing better to do. The only thing is, I don't know of anyone to go along with me. I guess if Elizabeth can brave the Portland music scene alone, I can handle downtown Kennewick.
I just received a very interestingly packed copy of High Fidelity. I decided to read this book because some guide for music snobs that I browsed through at a used book store in coastal Oregon told me to read it. I leave the world of Oliver Twist for my first try at a Nick Hornby book. We'll (or actually I'll) see.  Posted by Picasa

I'm going to try out this short, photo post idea for a few days. Here's a photo courtesy of the wonderful kdub webcam. This is Alex's shoe and David's blurry Whitman shirt. Last night was their last summer show together. This news has made me sad. In happier, semi-related news, I talked to greg of the cookie dance show about sweet onions. He told me about a group of alchemist chefs in Spain who flash freeze foods like potatoes. Apparantly it's a big craze. He would like to do a similar thing to create a glass onion dessert with walla walla sweets. Chemistry + food + clever Beatles reference! Posted by Picasa

I'm in a quick, photo post mood lately. If this doesn't make you laugh, I don't know what would. My roommate Chau created this stunning portrait of us using microsoft paint. This is to thank her for talking to me on the phone while I was alone in the 300 area of Hanford at 9:00 at night yesterday. Radioactivity becomes more frightening in the dark.  Posted by Picasa

Dynamite: a Guest post by Sharona
I'm embarrassed. I sent Sharon a really late birthday card and apparently addressed it to the wrong house. How could this happen?? I've known her since we were eight! Luckily good ol' Alhambra mailmen can recognize names! I think this signals for sure the fact that I am going slightly crazy missing my friends back home. I should go to the thrift store and find a pair of magical pants that could connect the original trio. I thought Sharon was crazy with this idea, considering there are only three of us and we don't fit the typecasts in the novel, but now I am wholeheartedly supporting it. Anyway writing on a pair of jeans will be much more time efficient than calling because Sharon and I can talk for hours, which means I will have less time to take on being president of another asian-centric club. =(

Yesterday I had the scariest time driving my old car to work. I was driving merrily with my coworker to the lab when what I think was an opossum jumped out. I had to swerve to avoid it because, as most people know, I am a former Environmental club president and this would not be good if I made my own roadkill. Yikes!

Today I also had a craving for blueberry muffins. I daydreamed that I was baking them with Elizabeth. This may be a result of her birthday blog post to me which was filled with neon-iced muffins. This visual-induced craving reminds me a lot of my good friend Lillian. If you mention some sort of food, she will get a craving for it. This reminds me, I must post soon on my own food blog because Lillian has already written three. Must not let contributors overshadow my presence on my own food blog!

p.s. no animals were harmed in the making of the blog post!

international mail
Today I received two pieces of mail from outside the united states. One was from Tom, which I was sort of expecting since he inquired about my address. The other was an Italian birthday card from Karina. Both were just wonderful.

On my way back from the RCC, I was thinking about things to write in my blog and now I don't remember why I was thinking about names, but I was. When driving through Wallula, I thought, Wallula is fun to say. I would name a kid Wallula. It's even better than Walla Walla and it could be shortened to Lula or Wallu. Sadly, none of the 3 would probably be appreciated by a child. My dad or mom or some parent calls me Lulabell sometimes. That's not so bad.

So, last week was my birthday. If you missed it, no need to worry. I believe that between work and wedding family I had a record high number of birthday wishes. I even got a radio shoutout (semi-requested) that I didn't get to hear. My whole week was fantasticly fun.
Seeing family is good. Canoeing is good. Hearing Alhambra fireworks from an airport terminal is good too.
Here's the link to one of my favorite birthday wishes. If you like humorous photos of me, you should lovethis, courtesy of Elizabeth.

Quick movie reviews: Tonight I saw Batman Begins. It was exciting enough, although I am beginning to dislike Katie Holmes the more I see her face everywhere.
More importantly, last weekend, I stayed up to watch "The Secret Life of Dentists." It turned out to be an excellent film that I highly reccommend. It was a great typical-family-man-with-troubled-marriage/life sort of story like "American Beauty" but not as extreme or creative. It was more like "Sideways" in depicting regular people.
My final movie note is that I'm not usually one to gush over celebrities, but Peter Sarsgaard grows to be more charming every time I see him. Man, Peter Sarsgaard.
