job hunt
So I went to Davis and Walnut Creek. I saw Sharon and Nick and Eric and Anu, Huyen, and Tuan. The entire trip was great, but too long for me to tell you about here. Unfortunately, I had to return to the real world and begin a serious job search. As of now, I have submitted applications for the following jobs:
Alhambra library- I'm pretty sure they turned me down because city hall said I would receive something this week.
Ideal chemistry job working in Pasadena testing adhesives- they claim they don't want someone with as much knowledge as I have. why? I'm sure they could still pay me slightly more than the following.
Paper Source- I just got a call from them which made me dance around the house. They asked for samples of my work from book arts. Yea! Paper! But, I sadly applied for a real full time job there and I haven't decided what to tell them.
Best Buy- If I work there, I could get a discount on a camera.
Bristol Farms- Fancy groceries!
Huntington Library- This would be an awesome place to work, but they would only give me 14 hours a week. Still, it would be great. (I've checked pretty much all other nearby musuems already for job openings.)
Macy's- I applied for 4 positions there which include gift wrapper and visual designer. I could shift around holiday decorations. I could wrap all day.
Target in Alhambra- I already interviewed. I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore.
Joann's- I went and the woman seemed very grouchy and made two big customer service mistakes in front of me. Bleck.
Yet to apply:
Vroman's- The biggest independant bookstore near me. I can't think of anything bad about working there.
Trader Joe's- They would supposedly give me a free Hawaiian shirt.
Michael's- I plan to go to their job fair this Saturday. Craft discounts!
Cal Tech?- I planned to apply to be a biology lab assistant caring for fruit flies or zebra fish, but I wouldn't want to abandon any animals.
I was thinking about applying at Rite Aid and CVS as a pharmacy technician, but I decided more or less to settle for seasonal work with sucky hours.
If I, by chance, got job offers from them all, which should I choose? I am listing them all here for your opinions and advice. I'm serious. And if you can think of any other awesome retail places within 5 miles of Alhambra, please let me know.
Now that you took the time to look over my list, I will humor you with some photos from my trip. Eric gave me a refresher on crocheting and now I can't stop. I think the Institue for Figuring also deserves some credit. Math + Art = Ultra nerdy.
Oh! On the subject of nerdy, this week is National Chemistry Week! Go use your chemical ninja skills and cause some trouble. Yea!

Sharon and I went on an adventure yesterday. We visited H&M in the morning. It was crowded. We then went to Mi Piace, a fancy Italian restaurant. The sandwich was pretty good but the salad greens were wilted and I'm bitter about the lack of clarity in their menu. We stopped at Barnes and Noble and they had the world food Thailand book that I've been searching for. The guy who works there must have bad eyes because he didn't see it on the shelf when I called to ask. We then sat around for a long time sleepily until it was time for Hong Kong tea. Sharon's mom had roughly translated a magazine ad for her. We arrived at Hong Kong Deli to a menu written in Chinese characters. Luckily, the waitress was super nice and pointed to parts of her body to explain the menu to Sharon. I got a large milk tea, seafood noodle soup, and mango pudding for $4.95. The experience was fun, but Sharon and I were stuffed when we arrived home. The tea also must have been highly concentrated because I felt the caffeine immediately. Sharon felt ill too so maybe it was also the food.
I then went to donate blood. Right before I left, I gasped to my mom that I hadn't eaten iron-fortified cereal for a month. My fear was correct when they rejected me. This made me feel very very sad and disappointed in myself for failing. I'm angry that my finger hurts but not my arm. This also proves that my recent irregular eating habits have had an effect on me. I am trying my best to blame it on the tea/food instead.
In summary, I did not feel well last night. Today is a new day though and I am excited to get out of Alhambra for a while. Sharon and I also stopped into paper source yesterday which carries book cloth and bookbinding supplies which made me happy. I might even try applying to work there. The store also made me want to seek out information about letterpress printing. I don't know if there's an affordable way for me to do that as a hobby. All of the internet places that I found were strictly professional.
Nucleus is having an opening tonight. If you read this before then I'd better see you there. Seonna Hong's going to be there. Yea!

Last year, the thread that held my banana's (my large stuffed gorilla) banana to him broke. This means that I can now wear him around my neck like a fashionable scarf. Maybe I should use it for halloween. Anyway, I felt better today about my new glasses because I wore a purple shirt which made them look better. Here's some photos I took. The other photo is of fair food. Those deep fried avocados sure sounded temping. I also saw deep fried corn on the cob. I'm not even sure how you would eat that.

I wrote a long entry last night about more tv things and about halloween. My bad internet connection made it all disappear. In summary, I love the movie Hocus Pocus. I am newly a fan of NCIS as I am sucked into all of those crime investigation shows. The guy who plays Timothy McGee on NCIS is Thackery Binx of Hocus Pocus. I also threw in some ellipses and a few :O faces.
There was some other stuff about excessive halloween decorations such as those giant inflatable lawn ornaments. I also wrote about Lillian hooking me onto Flavor of Love, that Bachelor-like show featuring Flavor Flav. One of the remaining women has a crazy mom. She told her daughter that she was dying of a rare disease just to get her away from Flav. She did have enough sense to make the statement that she does not want to be seen with a man wearing a clock around his neck. I am admittedly excited to see the last episode. Oh, I also learned that Flavor Flav has 6 kids and plans to have 4 more. Eeee. Unless Wikipedia lies, he is 49 years old and still claiming he is not ready to settle down and marry. Eeee.

pop culture has overcome me
Hi,
I have too many things to complain about and I learned about all of them from my television. That means I've been watching too much tv. I mostly watch it because my parents do and I don't want to sit alone all night in the breakfast room. The thing that's bugging me right now is old navy's new slogan, get your fash' on. Clever, but not that clever. There are several other advertisements and products which irritate me. I was happy to watch David Letterman the other night and hear Billy Bob Thorton mention that Kentucky Fried Chicken's new meal looks like it was made by a drunk guy. Oh, I guess I mean KFC. Now I feel as old as my mom must have when she mistook a photocopier for a mimeograph. Anyway, I have been wondering for a while who in America would ever order such a disgusting looking concoction. I think the whole thing wouldn't be quite so bad if the three cheese blend had been omitted.
I guess it slipped my mind that I am also have some pop music complaints. Fergalicious Fergie Ferg is really getting to me. I was actually disappointed that John Mayer's album was not higher in the charts because Fergie had beat him out. He can at least write music and play a guitar. I think she annoys me because she takes herself too seriously to have lyrics that make no sense at all. Only Andre 3000 can write lyrics that silly and pull it off.
This is where I went with Lillian in Chinatown the other day. I'm not sure how long Bobby Birdman will leave that photo on his site. We went together to see the wonderful performance by Jona of Y.A.C.H.T. The whole experience was very exciting. I loved the place that hosted the show which was actually underground like walla walla's underground. The people there and the atmosphere made me miss Washington. It's too bad that Elizabeth and I never made a trip to Anacortes. After turning down free birthday cake Lillian and I rushed to Phillipe's, the famous french dip place, just before it closed. We shared a disapppointing rose soda which Lillian said tasted like liquified lychee jellies. I agreed.
Sharon's here in the SGV and I'm going with her up north. In short, this means I see Eric in 9 days. Yes!
